Khaled Hosseini (born March 4, 1965) is an American physician novelistand Afghan-born. After graduating from college, he worked as a doctor in California, a profession which he compared to "an arranged marriage."

He has published three novels, including her 2003 debutThe Kite Runner, which are at least partially in Afghanistan and have an Afghan as the protagonist. After the success of The Kite Runner, he retired from medicine to write full time.
